Arrive a guest. Leave a friend.

Abangane means friends in Zulu. On our hilltop above the valley — five rooms, a heated infinity pool and twenty years of practice at making people never want to leave — that is simply what happens.

The name
Abangane

a · ba · nga · ne — isiZulu, “friends”

Twenty years of guests will tell you the name is not decoration — it’s a promise. Set on twenty-two hectares of bushveld hilltop, Abangane is small enough to know your name and unhurried enough to let you forget the date.

One day at Abangane

Let the day come to you.

Dawn mist over the macadamia orchards below the lodge
05:58

First light

The valley wakes before you do. Mist lies low over the macadamia orchards, the first birdsong drifts up the hill, and the mountains hold the horizon. Coffee on the verandah isn’t a decision here — it’s a given.

Breakfast laid on the verandah above the valley
08:30

Breakfast, with a valley for company

Bread still warm from the oven, fruit picked ripe, a full English if the day ahead calls for it — laid on the verandah while the last mist burns off. Guests write home about this table.

Giraffe crossing a lowveld golf fairway
10:00

Into the wild — or onto the fairway

Phabeni Gate is fifteen minutes away: elephants before lunch. Or God’s Window and the Blyde River Canyon. Or eighteen holes with giraffe watching from beyond the green. Tell Sharon the night before — consider it arranged.

Sundowner hour

The heated infinity pool holds the last of the day’s warmth while the valley turns to gold. One of five signature cocktails finds its way to your hand. This is the hour the lodge was built for.

20:00

Fire & stars

Dinner from Thabo’s kitchen, then the boma: flames, good wine, unhurried conversation under a sky crowded with stars. And somewhere over the dark hills — the cry of a fish eagle. You’ll know it when you hear it.

Evenings at the lodge

And tomorrow? Again — slower.

What a warm welcome and what a beautiful spot — high on a hill overlooking a vista of trees. So restful after a long journey.
